Torsades de Pointes associated with QT prolongation after catheter ablation of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation

A 79-year-old woman who underwent catheter ablation for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation presented with Torsades de Pointes (TdP). Aggravation of prolonged QT interval which is most likely due to neural modulation by catheter ablation, played major role in the initiation of TdP. The patient was successfully treated with isoproterenol during acute stage and discharged after stabilization without i...

Recurrent torsades de pointes after catheter ablation of incessant ventricular bigeminy in combination with QT prolongation.

A 45-year-old woman, who had received a single-chamber implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) due to ventricular fibrillation 5 years ago, was admitted for catheter ablation of incessant right ventricular outflow tract bigeminy. After successful ablation recurrent torsades de pointes associated with a prolonged corrected QT (QTc) interval were initiated by polymorphic premature ventricula...

Long QT Syndrome Unveiled by a Fatal Combination of Medications and Electrolyte Abnormalities

Long QT syndrome (LQTS) can present with syncope and seizure-like activity in the setting of torsades de pointes (TdP) with hemodynamic instability. Electrolyte abnormalities and medications can predispose to TdP in the setting of latent LQTS. An implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) is needed if patients with TdP continue to be symptomatic despite medical treatment. We report a case of ...

Amiodarone-Induced Third Degree Atrioventricular Block and Extreme QT Prolongation Generating Torsade Des Pointes in Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation.

Amiodarone is still the most potent antiarrhythmic drug in the prevention of life threatening ventricular arrhythmias and demonstrates a very low incidence of torsade de pointes. An unusual case of an 81-year-old woman who developed serious abnormalities of the conduction system of the heart and torsade des pointes during intravenous infusion of amiodarone for the treatment of paroxysmal atrial...

QTc prolongation and torsades de pointes due to a coadministration of fluoxetine and amiodarone in a patient with implantable cardioverter–defibrillator

RATIONALE Drug-induced prolongation of the corrected QT interval (QTc) may lead to serious and potentially life-threatening ventricular tachyarrhythmia, such as torsades de pointes (Tdp), which is worthy of clinical attention. Here, we report 1 case of Tdp after a coadministration of fluoxetine and amiodarone. PATIENT CONCERNS A 62-year-old Chinese male who placed with the implanted cardiover...
